Duke Basketball: R.J. Barrett named to the preseason All-America Team
A Duke Basketball star freshman has racked up yet another honor as he has been named to the preseason AP All-America Team.
If you’re not used to the name R.J. Barrett, you better get used to it because the Duke freshman is ready to set the college basketball world on fire and has racked up yet another preseason honor.
After winning every award a high school basketball player could win, Barrett came into Duke as the No. 1 incoming freshman according to ESPN and 247 Sports, but he was ready to work and help bring a sixth National Championship to Durham.
Barrett was named to the Jerry West Award Watch List, an award given to the best shooting guard in the country at the end of the season and now Barrett was named to the preseason AP All-America Team.
Barrett is the only freshman to be named to the team and he is joined by Kansas’ Dedric Lawson, Wisconsin’s Ethan Happ, Purdue’s Carsen Edwards, Nevada’s Caleb Martin, and North Carolina’s Luke Maye.
Each player is looking to lead their team in Minneapolis in late March and early April to cut down the nets as the team of each player is ranked in the preseason AP Top-25 poll, except for Wisconsin who is looking for a bounce back season after last years disappointment.
The possible top pick in the 2019 NBA Draft had his first experience in college basketball when Duke traveled to Barrett’s home country of Canada over the summer to play in three exhibition games and Barrett put on a show in all three games.
Barrett will get to play with his entire Duke team tonight as the Blue Devils host Virginia Union in the first of two exhibition games the Blue Devils will play in ahead of the much anticipated season opener against the preseason No. 2 team in the country, the Kentucky Wildcats, in the Champions Classic on November 6.
