Luol Deng could soon be teaming up with another past Duke basketball player in Minnesota.

After reaching a buyout agreement with the Los Angeles Lakers, former Duke basketball standout Luol Deng is now on the market.

Deng agreed to cut the remaining amount owed to him by $7.5 million so that both parties could go their separate ways.

The deal helps the Lakers by freeing up cap space, allowing Lebron James and Co. to pursue the big names that will be free agents next summer.

And the agreement gives Deng the opportunity to ink a new deal with a franchise that intends to use his services on the court rather than reserving him a season-long seat at the end of the bench. Last season, Deng started the first game for the Lakers and then did not see a single minute of action after that.

According to rumors, the former seventh pick in the 2004 NBA Draft could be soon reuniting with his former coach from his last four seasons with the Chicago Bulls. Tom Thibodeau, now the coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves, has been stockpiling the centerpieces of his roster from his time with the Bulls — Jimmy Butler, Taj Gibson, and Derrick Rose are already in Minnesota.

Deng, who averaged 15.1 points and 6.9 rebounds during his one season (2003-04) playing for the Duke Blue Devils, is now 33 years old and is likely looking for a place where he can finish out his career.

If the rumors become reality, then Deng would join former Duke point guard and Minnesota native Tyus Jones (older brother of current Duke freshman Tre Jones) with the Timberwolves.
