It’s football season once again and here we have a scouting report on Duke Football’s first opponent, the Army Black Knights.

It’s never going to be just another football game when you’re facing a team like the Army Black Knights.

The tempo of the game, the triple option, and intensity of each play, you have to be on your toes when your going up against West Point.

Luckily for the Blue Devils, they had an entire offseason to prepare for this one game and they need it because this is not the Army Football team of years past.

Army finished off a historic 10 win season in 2017 with a win over the Navy Midshipmen and a victory in the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl over San Diego State.

The Black Knights lost their starting quarterback, Ahmad Bradshaw due to graduation, Army will roll out Kelvin Hopkins Jr. to lead the offense.

Hopkins Jr. did receive some playing time for Army last season as he rushed seven times for 40 yards and threw 18 passes, only completing six with one touchdown and one interception.

This will be a revenge game for the Blue Devils as Army defeated Duke 21-16 in West Point, but Head Coach David Cutcliffe cannot study any film on Hopkins from that game as he did not play.

Army also has to replace four of its five starting offensive lineman, which is one of the toughest things to do in football in a year to year basis.

The Black Knights also lost two of their best defenders due to graduation as well, but they return five of their seven top tacklers.

While this is no cake walk of a first game of the season, the Duke Blue Devils have the talent to defeat this Army team who has underwent much change in this offseason.

There is more to come, including a game preview for the Duke Blue Devils vs Army Black Knights from Ball Durham.
