For basketball, Cameron Indoor Stadium is always one of the toughest places to play for opponents. Last season, the Duke Basketball Twitter account surpassed 1 million followers, becoming the most popular college social media account. And the Blue Devil fan base is growing so much that less than a year later, earlier this season, @DukeMBB eclipsed 2 million followers!
In the Fandom250 list Duke came in at 85th overall, dropping in the rankings from last year where they were 39th. Blue Devil fans are seventh among other college athletic programs, trailing Ohio State (1st), Alabama (8th), Notre Dame (29th), North Carolina (55th), Oklahoma (76th), and Kentucky (80th).
Although Duke is one of the most popular college basketball programs, they are also one of the most hated. While the Fandom250 poll allowed fans to vote for their favorite teams, people were also allowed to down-vote other teams. Of course, the Duke Blue Devils were also one of the most down-voted programs which most likely led to their drop in ranking. However, as Fandom250 puts it:
"Few fans produce such passion and emotion than those of the Duke Blue Devils, especially when it comes to college basketball."
