Duke senior cornerback Bryon Fields was named to the preseason watch list for the Lott IMPACT Trophy given to the top defensive player on and off the field.
The Lott IMPACT Trophy recently announced 42 players on the preseason list for their prestigious college football award, and Duke cornerback Bryon Fields, Jr. earned a nomination. Fields is a redshirt senior who will play a major role on defense for the Blue Devils this year.
The Lott IMPACT Trophy is awarded to the top defensive player who makes an IMPACT on and off the football field. In this case, IMPACT refers to a student-athletes Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity. Duke’s Bryon Fields is one of nine ACC players to receive a nomination for the upcoming season.

Bryon Fields will be one of the most important players for Duke Football in the upcoming season. Fields will be the Blue Devils’ only returning starter in the defensive secondary. Last season he compiled 30 tackles, six pass breakups, eight passes defended, two forced fumbles, and two interceptions, including this pick six against Pittsburgh, while coming off a torn ACL that forced him to miss the previous season. The 5-11 cornerback will have play a major role on defense for Duke to succeed this season in a secondary that will have to replace Deondre Singleton, Corbin McCarthy, as well as All-ACC performers Breon Borders and DeVon Edwards.
Off the field, Bryon Fields has excelled in the classroom during his time at Duke. He’s a earned Academic All-ACC honors for three consecutive years helping the Blue Devils lead the conference. Fields has also done a lot of work in the community, visiting the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City with teammates and delivering season tickets to Duke Football fans along with several other players. While no Blue Devil has ever won the award, the team has had previous players represent the program as finalists including David Helton in 2014 and former ACC Defensive Player of the Year Jeremy Cash in 2015.

Congrats to redshirt senior Bryon Fields on earning the preseason honor. Fields and the Blue Devils will open the 2017 season at home hosting North Carolina Central in the Bull City Gridiron Classic on September 2nd.
