Frank Jackson is one of the star freshmen that Duke has on its roster this season, and he has been doing his best to live up to that title. In the early going every season we usually see some growing pains from all of the freshman, and Jackson was not excluded from that. Now that he’s gotten some games under his belt, however, he is starting to look a lot more confident and capable on the basketball court. This has been showing recently and I don’t for see it slowing down anytime soon.

Mr. Jackson has been gaining more consistency as the season has progressed. He is averaging double digits in points at 10.4 per game. Not to mention the fact that these just aren’t garbage time points, but he’s been scoring some big buckets at key points in crucial games. This definitely showed in his great performance against Florida State when he basically just took over in the early minutes of the second half. He was having his way out there, and did everything from making three-pointers to driving to the basket.

His assist numbers aren’t the highest, but with all of the talent of this roster, he has to be content with the role that he has right now. He may not have as many opportunities to gain things like assists right now, but his presence on the court is definitely noticed by opposing teams, which opens up a lot for his fellow teammates.

Another thing that is making Frank Jackson so important to this Blue Devils team is the number of games that he’s played. He’s played in 30 games for the Blue Devils this season, which of huge value for a freshman. Not to mention, that in those games, he averages 23.9 minutes per contest. This is helping the Blue Devils currently, and will help them even more next season if he decides to stay, because he is learning a lot by being on the court so much, and this will produce leadership. Point being, we’re only seeing the beginning of a great basketball player being born.
