Former Blue Devil Prepares for First NBA Game Tonight

Former Duke guard Quinn Cook will make his first regular season appearance in the NBA tonight after recently signing a 10-day contract to join a team.
Former Blue Devil Quinn Cook could make his first appearance in the NBA regular season tonight. Cook recently signed a 10-day contract to join the Dallas Mavericks after starring in the NBA D-League this season.

Cook’s dream has been to play in the NBA, and he may have an opportunity to prove himself over the next few days. The former Blue Devil went undrafted in the 2015 NBA Draft, but has starred in the NBA D-League for the Canton Charge. Last season he earned a spot in the D-League All-Star game and was named Rookie of the Year. He has previously competed in the preseason and training camp with NBA organizations. However, today will be Cook’s first time suiting up during the regular season.

He admitted to NPR that he was more motivated to improve this season after not receiving an NBA call up last year, and even gave up $300,000 to play in Europe for a shot in the NBA. He has returned this year to his second straight NBA D-League All-Star game earning MVP honors. Cook is second in the league in scoring and dominated this season averaging 26 points and 7 assists per game.
Quinn Cook had an excellent career at Duke, helping lead the Blue Devils to their fifth national title as a senior captain in 2015. The 6-2 guard averaged 11.0 points in four years at Duke and had an outstanding senior season with career-highs in points (15.3), field goal percentage, and three point percentage.

The Dallas Mavericks will host the Miami Heat tonight in Cook’s first NBA game. He will join former teammate Seth Curry on the Mavericks competing for a roster spot for the rest of the season.
