The College Football season is getting close, and as the anticipation continues to rise predictions continue to be made. About a week ago Sportsbook projected Duke Football for seven wins, which would make them bowl eligible for the fourth straight season. On Monday morning Sportsbook released the odds for each team to take home their respective conference titles.

Recently the ACC has been dominated by Florida State and once again they are favored to take home the ACC crown with 5-2 odds. The Duke Blue Devils come into the 2015-16 season with the seventh best odds to win the conference at 12-1.

Not only does Sportsbook think Duke is a long shot to win the conference, but they also give Duke only the fourth best odds in their own division behind Georgia Tech, Miami, and Virginia Tech.

The past two seasons Duke has finished in the top two in the Coastal division. In the 2013-14 season Duke won the Coastal division and played in the ACC Championship game where they lost to eventual National Champions Florida State. In 2014-15 the Blue Devils finished second, one game behind Georgia Tech.

This season many are expecting a down year from Duke and the main reason why might be the inexperience at quarterback. Thomas Sirk is expected to start this season at quarterback and while he is talented, he has only thrown 14 passes at the college level. Another place where Duke might be weak is at defensive end. The Blue Devils don’t have much returning production or experience at the end spots, and if you can’t get pressure on the quarterback it may end up being a long season for your defense.

This Blue Devils team is not without it’s strengths though, as they have two preseason All-Americans, and six preseason All-ACC players. With Jeremy Cash, and the return of Kelby Brown this defensive unit does have some very good players. The offensive line should also be a huge strength which will help out Sirk in his first season as a starter.

The Blue Devils definitely lost a lot of talent from last years team that went 9-4, but they have been establishing themselves in recent years as perennial contenders in the Coastal division. Their division will likely be stronger this year but Duke still has a lot of talent on their roster and may be able to shock some people with their performance this season.

For now Duke is a major underdog going into the 2015-16 season which starts on September 3rd at Tulane. Keep it locked to Ball Durham for all of your Duke news.
