Duke wide receiver Jamison Crowder is the 2nd highest rated Blue Devil for the 2015 NFL Draft class, after offensive guard Laken Tomlinson. In what many experts view as a deep wide receiver class, Crowder is considered by many sources to be a Top 20 receiver entering the draft, putting him drafted anywhere in the middle of most mock drafts:
- 3rd-4th round (CBS Sports)
- 3rd-4th round (NFL Draft Scout)
- 4th round pick by the New York Jets (#104 overall, NFL Draft Geek)
- 4th round pick by the New England Patriots (#131 overall, Draft Tek)
- 4th-5th round (NFL.com)
- 5th round pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars (#139 overall, DraftSite)
- 6th round pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (#184 overall, Walter Football)
With the First Pick
Crowder will be an interesting prospect at WR heading into the draft. His main weakness is that he is very short for a typical NFL wide receiver at 5-8, which causes the wide variance on where he could be drafted from rounds 3-6, but Charles Davis of NFL.com has Jamison ranked as the best WR prospect shorter than 6 feet. His greatest strength is his speed, quickness, acceleration, and route-running, which should allow Crowder to be a capable playmaker in the NFL at the wide receiver position or in special teams, both of which he excelled in at Duke.
Jamison Crowder had a historic career with the Blue Devils, becoming the ACC’s all-time leader in career receptions during the 2014-2015 season and broke many other school and conference records with three consecutive years with over 1,000 receiving yards. He also impressed many NFL scouts at the Reese’s Senior Bowl during practices and in the game. The seven round 2015 NFL Draft will be taking place April 30-May 2 in Chicago, IL.
