Jahlil Okafor Collects ACC Player and Freshman of the Week Honors
By Tyler Hoxsie
Duke Blue Devils center Jahlil Okafor has collected two more ACC honors and is quickly becoming the favorite for ACC Player of the Year and a lock for ACC Freshman of the Year.
The ACC has named Okafor the ACC Player of the Week and the ACC Rookie of the Week. Over the past week no team or player has been able to slow down Okafor. He is on a tear and proving that he is the class of the ACC, and maybe even the country. Okafor is living up to the hype he received coming into the season as the number one recruit in the nation.

His all-around game has made it nearly impossible to slow him down. Duke played three games last week and won all three by more than 15 points. The three performances by Okafor were big reasons why the Blue Devils won so easily.
Over the last three contests Okafor is averaging an astonishing 26.3 points, 8 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game. Even more impressive than those stats is his 76.9 field goal percentage. He is 30-39 over the last three games. Yes 30-39. Yes he has missed only nine shots over three games.
In an 86-69 win over Toledo to start the week Okafor scored 27 points, 8 rebounds and 1 block on 12-15 shooting. In an 84-55 win over Wofford in the second game of the week Okafor scored 24 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks on 11-13 shooting. The third game of the week was a victory over Boston College 85-62. Okafor scored a new career-high 28 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks on 7-11 shooting. Okafor is getting better as the season progresses and he is only going to improve with each game.

The thought of Okafor not being his best yet is scary for the rest of the ACC. He is only 13 games into his college career and has now scored 20 or more points in six games, 15 points or more in 10 games and has scored in double figures in every game. Okafor has recorded at least five rebounds in every game as well and recorded at least one block in every game but one.
Every single game Okafor is stuffing the stat sheet and is looking like he’ll be a lock for ACC Rookie of the Year and Player of the Year. Not only is Okafor looking like a lock for ACC Player of the Year but he will also be a top candidate for some big time NCAA Awards such as the Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year.
Through 13 games Okafor is leading the ACC in scoring with 19.5 points per game and is sixth in both rebounds per game, 8.7, and blocks per game, 1.69. Okafor also leads the ACC in field goal percentage and is second in field goal percentage, 68.2 percent, in all of college basketball.
This was the fifth time Okafor has been named ACC Rookie of the Week, and the first time he has been named ACC Player of the Week. This was also the first time a player has taken home both awards in the same week.
Okafor and the Blue Devils get back on the court Wednesday, Jan. 07 at Wake Forest.
