Basketball Recruiting: Are We On The Verge For One Of The Best Classes Of All-Time?

I don’t know if any of you have seen my 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions, but I have four players joining Grayson Allen at Duke.

Let me start off by saying that we need to focus on this year’s team. We still have a great team that has Jabari Parker. Even though we need to focus on this upcoming season, you can’t help but get excited for next season.

We’ve had a ton of great recruiting classes. Who can forget the Class of 1997? That class featured Shane Battier, Elton Brand, William Avery and Chris Burgess. Or what about the Class of 1999, that had Jay Williams, Carlos Boozer, Mike Dunleavy Jr. and Casey Sanders?

Trust me, I could name these all day long. Our 2014 class has the chance to be historic, and I’ll tell you why.

First off, we must start with Jones/Okafor. Many analysts would say these two players are ranked No.1 and No.2 in the nation. (In either order). These two keep saying they will be a package deal.

This means we could potentially have the best point guard/center tandem in Duke history. I’m not saying this is going to happen, but there certainly is potential.

Those are just two five-star prospects to look at, and I’m only halfway finished. The next two are Kevon Looney and Justice Winslow. These are two top-ten players. Getting a little shabby, huh? I would consider four top-ten players to be one helluva class.

This came across my mind a few days ago. What if Duke could land all four of these guys? At least on paper, this would go down as one of the best recruiting classes ever assembled at Duke. They haven’t played a game in a college jersey, but that doesn’t mean we can’t be excited, right?

I think Duke is the most likely school for all four of these guys. I’m not saying we will get all four of them, but I think Duke is the mostly likely destination for each of the four. There is at least a realistic chance that we land all of them.

What do you guys think? Where would this rank in terms of all-time recruiting classes at Duke? Please let us know in the comment section.
