Safeties Jeremy Cash and DeVon Edwards are already projected to be the best safety duo in the nation, and both were named to the 2015 Walter Camp Football Foundation Player of the Year watch list. This award is presented to the best overall player in the NCAA at any position on offense or defense, and these Blue Devils were 2 out of 5 defensive backs named to the list. Cash and Edwards have also both received All-ACC recognition last year and preseason All-ACC and All-America honors for this season in addition to being named to other national award watch lists.

Redshirt senior Jeremy Cash is projected to be one of the top safeties in the country this season and has been nominated for 4 awards given to the top collegiate defensive players in addition to a preseason ACC Defensive Player of the Year nod. Cash will be a vital part of the Duke defense after turning down the NFL draft to return to Duke for his senior year, and even more so now that Kelby Brown will be out for the season.

DeVon Edwards will be entering the season as a redshirt junior and will play a key role in a variety of ways for the Blue Devils this season. Edwards, who has spent time at cornerback and is the primary kick returner in addition to playing safety, was also named to the Paul Hornung Award watch list awarded to the most versatile player in the NCAA.

Duke Football is definitely gaining a lot of national attention, with 8 Blue Devils added to 13 different NCFAA award watch lists ranging almost everywhere on the football field for offense, defense, and special teams. Duke players nominated include Cash and Edwards, linebacker Kelby Brown, tight end Braxton Deaver, kicker Ross Martin, punter Will Monday, running back Shaquille Powell, and center Matt Skura.
