Duke Basketball Recruiting: Scouting Report on Brandon Ingram

Duke is looking to replace four starters off their 2015 championship title team and one player at the top of their list is 6’8 SF Brandon Ingram. Ingram has set his announcement decision for April 27th and Duke as well as North Carolina and Kentucky are among the favorites to land him. After studying his tape for hours, I have put together my own scouting report on what kind of player he is and what type of impact he could come in and make for the Blue Devils.

Ingram has crazy long arms. I feel sorry for every high school player who had the task of guarding this young man. He has the length of a power forward and uses it to effectively block shots. Has a similar build to Kevin Durant only he is not as tall. Can pull up from 3 in a moment’s notice and knock it down with ease. His mid-range game is just as smooth as his perimeter game. Ingram uses his size and length to shoot over defenders like it is child’s play. He has an effective dribble that gets him where he needs to go on the court. His athleticism is what you would expect when you first lay eyes on him, he’s not the most explosive leaper but a good enough leaper to where he can play above the rim effectively.

Ingram is above average in every aspect of his scoring ability. His passing and play-making abilities are still a bit under-developed but he plays with a high basketball IQ, and is capable of being an extremely pesky defender as his length makes him a nightmare for opposing guards as well as small forwards. Ingram will have to bulk up as he will be pushed around at the next level by players that have any semblance of a post game, a college weight-training program will do him wonders.

More from Duke Basketball

Overall, Ingram is a top 15-20 player in the country who can score from multiple spots on the floor from mid-range to the three-point line. His length and athleticism are at elite levels with the rest of the players in his class. He will need to bulk up and put some muscle on his rail-thin body.

Player Comparison: A poor man’s Kevin Durant

Ingram can come in and somewhat replace the absence that will be left by Justise Winslow at the SF position. He is not the defender Winslow was but his scoring ability and especially his shooting ability far exceeds Winslow’s when Justise was an incoming freshman. This is a player that Duke needs to land if they want to potentially repeat as champs. He is a natural when it comes to scoring and his potential on the defensive end is something that can be special. Duke can challenge Kentucky for the number 1 class in the country if Ingram decides for the Blue Devils.
