Last week a record was on the line. This week a different record is on the line. The 2-0 Duke Blue Devils face the 1-0 Kansas Jayhawks on Saturday. The last time Duke had a 3-0 record was 20 years ago.

Before Duke’s 2013 season, the 1994 team was the one Duke fans remembered as “the good old days”. The Blue Devils went 8-4, winning the first seven games of the season.
- September 3, 1994– Duke 49- Maryland 16
- September 10, 1994– Duke 13- East Carolina 10
- September 15, 1994– Duke 43- Army 7
- September 24, 1994– Duke 27- Georgia Tech 12
- October 1, 1994– Duke 47- Navy 14
- October 15, 1994– Duke 19- Clemson 13
- October 22, 1994– Duke 51- Wake Forest 26
The following week, Duke lost in a heartbreaker to Florida State 28-25.
Since then, Duke hasn’t started 3-0. They’ve suffered early losses in every season since then. Most seasons didn’t have more than 3 wins.
- 1995– Duke lost first game of the season and went 3-8 on the season. Florida State 70- Duke 26
- 1996– Duke went 0-11 on the season.
- 1997– Duke lost the first two games of the season. Week one was a loss to N.C. State 14-45. Week two was a loss to Northwestern 20-24. Duke had a 2-9 record on the year.
- 1998– Duke won the first two games of the year (Western Carolina 24-10, Northwestern 44-10) but was easily handled by Florida State, losing 13-62. The Blue Devils went 4-7 on the year.
- 1999– Duke lost the first four games of the season, suffering a 3-8 record on the year.
- 2000– Duke went 0-11 on the season.
- 2001– Duke went 0-11 on the season.
- 2002– Duke won the first game of the season (East Carolina 23-16), but lost to Louisville in the second week 3-40. The Blue Devils had a 2-10 record that year.
- 2003– Duke was shut out the first game of the year to Virginia 0-27. The Blue Devils had a 4-8 seaso.
- 2004– Duke lost the first four games of the season and was 2-9 on the season.
- 2005– Duke lost the first two games of the season and had a 1-10 record.
- 2006–Duke went 0-12 on the year.
- 2007– Duke lost the first two games of the year and went 1-11.
- 2008– Duke won the first game of the season, but lost the next game. This was David Cutcliffe’s first season at the helm for Duke and led the team to a 4-8 record.
- 2009– Duke lost the first game of the season. The team had a 5-7 record.
- 2010– Duke won the first game of the season 41-27 against Elon, but lost the next six. Duke’s record that year was 3-9.
- 2011– Duke lost the first two games of the season and won the next three. Duke was held to a 3-9 record.
- 2012– Duke won the first game, lost the second, and won the next four games. Duke went 6-7. This was the first time since 1994 where Duke was eligible to play in a bowl game.
- 2013– Despite going 10-4, Duke lost the third and fourth games of the season.
Looking back, Duke started 2-0 just twice since 1994 (1998 and 2013).
If Duke gets it together on Saturday, there’s no telling what could happen.
