Duke football season preview: GAMES 1-2

Could the Blue Devils have possibly been handed a tougher opener? The 2020 Duke football season will open with a trip to South Bend to take on Notre Dame. The Irish were recently ranked 10th in the Preseason AP Poll.

The last time Duke played Notre Dame on the road in 2016, the Blue Devils waltzed out with a surprise upset win. However, last year’s matchup ended in a 38-7 blowout loss in Durham for the Blue Devils.

Contrary to the popular bleak outlook on this game, the Blue Devils could very well make this competitive. With a revived offense, they could do something that cost them this duel last year: score. No matter how hopeful Duke football fans are, Notre Dame is still a very good team, returning a tough defense, along with a high-powered offense.

While I believe Duke will put up a fight, the Fighting Irish will likely be just too much. Look for Notre Dame to get a hard-fought win in the season opener.

Final Score: Duke 21, Notre Dame 35

Duke opens up its home slate with a matchup against Boston College. This is a BC team that has had some solid seasons as of late, but the program has lost a plethora of talent on offense. The Eagles will no longer have QB Anthony Brown as he has transferred to Oregon. But most of all, they lose star running back A.J. Dillon to the NFL.

There’s really not a ton to say for this one. While it appears that the Eagles will have a down year, they shouldn’t be flat out awful. Duke couldn’t have gotten much of a better opponent for the home opener, as the Blue Devils should be able to take this game without too much trouble.

Look for Duke to take out any potential frustrations from the Notre Dame game on BC in the first game of 2020 at Wallace Wade Stadium.

Final Score: Duke 38, Boston College 14
