Duke basketball: Memphis Grizzlies honor the 2015 National Champions

Five years ago on Monday, the Duke basketball program won its fifth National Championship, and the Memphis Grizzlies paid homage to those who won the Natty and are now on the team.

Monday, April 6, was a tough day in the college basketball world as it was supposed to be the culmination of the season in Atlanta with the National Championship Game.

Fans from all the top teams in the country proclaimed that their team would be playing to enshrine themselves in the history books, but one thing that only a handful of teams could look back on is what happened in past years on April 6.

One of those programs is Duke, who won its fifth National Championship on April 6, 2015, in comeback fashion against the Wisconsin Badgers.

On the anniversary of the title game, the Memphis Grizzlies took to social media to recognize two of the heroes for the Blue Devils in Tyus Jones and Grayson Allen, who are both currently in their first year with the franchise.

Unfortunately, the Grizzlies did not acknowledge Justise Winslow, who was also on that Duke team and was traded to Memphis from the Miami Heat at the NBA Trade Deadline.

Grizzlies rookie Ja Morant also chimed in to talk about his teammates, calling them his guys.

In the 68-63 win over No. 1 seed Wisconsin, Grayson Allen sparked the Duke comeback with 16 points on 5-of-8 shooting while Tyus Jones led the way with a game-high 23 points and was named as the NCAA Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.

Justise Winslow came so close to a double-double in the showdown with 11 points and nine rebounds.

Allen, Jones, and Winslow have yet to take the court together with the Memphis Grizzlies, but Duke basketball fans wait eagerly for when that day comes and salivate over a matchup with the New Orleans Pelicans, who sport five former Blue Devils on their squad.
