The Duke basketball coaches need to pick up at least one commitment from a 2019 guard, and Boogie Ellis appears to be the most likely candidate to help them reach that minimum mark.

Now that five-star combo guard Cole Anthony is no longer considering the Duke basketball program as an option, the Blue Devils have just one offer on the table to a guard from the class of 2019.

And things are looking good when it comes to the recruitment of four-star combo guard Boogie Ellis, who announced through a tweeted video on Tuesday the final five schools on his list, which includes Duke. Also, according to a tweet by Evan Daniels of 247Sports, Ellis is planning to announce his final decision on Nov. 9.

The 6-foot-2, 165-pound San Diego native will choose from Duke, UNC, Memphis, USC, and San Diego State.

Currently, six of the eight experts at the 247Sports Crystal Ball are predicting Ellis will become a Blue Devil. As for the other two experts, one is picking UNC and the other is picking USC.

If Ellis chooses Duke, he would likely be the favorite to start at point guard next fall if Tre Jones leaves for the NBA after his upcoming freshman season. Ranked No. 35 overall and No. 7 at his position on the 247Sports Composite, his game appears similar to that of former Blue Devil guard Nolan Smith, who is currently the director of basketball operations for his alma mater.

Ellis took his official visit to Duke last weekend. And if he ends up announcing next Friday that he will make Durham his college home, he would become the Blue Devils’ second commitment overall from the 2019 class, joining five-star small forward Wendell Moore, who is ranked No. 23 on the composite ranking and announced his decision at the beginning of October.

Head coach Mike Krzyzewski and his staff are still waiting on answers from three other targets who hold offers from Duke.

Five-star center Vernon Carey Jr., who is ranked No. 2 overall, took his official visit to Duke two weekends ago and is eyeing late November for a decision date, according to Adam Rowe of 247Sports. Fellow five-star center Isaiah Stewart, ranked No. 5, will be on his official visit to Duke this weekend. And five-star forward Matthew Hurt, ranked No. 6, has not set any official visits and does not intend to make his college choice until the spring.
