A tough freshman campaign, plus a season-ending knee injury, divided by a crowded backfield and what do you get? You get ranked #62 on our “ACC’s Top-100 Returning Players” Countdown.

PLAYER: Reggie Bullock
POSITION: Shooting Guard
TEAM: North Carolina
YEAR: Sophomore
TAPE: 6-7, 190
TWITTER: @DaBully35

2010-11 STATS: 6.1 ppg, 2.8 ppg, 0.6 apg (.367/.565/.296)

DEEP THOUGHTS:
As a 6-6 shooting guard, Reggie Bullock has an NBA body to go with the NBA distance on his jumper. I suspect he’ll have a better pro career than a lot of guys I have ranked ahead of him. So why is he ranked down so low? I’ll give you three reasons.

First, he’s coming off a pretty big injury. Bullock tore a lateral meniscus in his left knee. He underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair the damage. Even now in early July, he’s still not 100-percent. According to reports, he can’t cut and he’s been battling swelling.

Secondly, I wasn’t all that impressed by Bullock last year when he was healthy. The Tar Heels were expecting to get a long, athletic guard, who could create monster havoc on defense. He was also suppose to be lights out from three, who could also put it on the floor to get some points in the paint.

As a freshman, Bullock was certainly a three-point shooter (over 59-percent of his shots were threes), but he wasn’t always a three-point maker. He hit an unimpressive 29-percent from downtown.

He also didn’t impress me with his defense. He tended to stand tall and play flat-footed, allowing smaller, quicker guards to work easily around him.

Lastly, where will Bullock’s minutes come from? He struggled to be a good player and he’s coming off a severe injury that can’t be rushed, yet somehow he will need to find a place in the rotation in a crowded backfield.

The fact is, Dexter Strickland will be starting two-guard again, along side Kendall Marshall at the point and Harrison Barnes on the wing. Since there is still no legit backup at PG, Strickland will continue to play some point, but I’d argue that Bullock is the third option off the pine behind junior Leslie McDonald and incoming stud freshman, P.J. Hairston.

Don’t be surprised if Bullock’s minutes are cut, especially if Roy Williams doesn’t want to take a chance with that knee. It’s funny how it works. One day you’re a stud shooting guard coming out of high school, capable of being a 1-2 year player, then before you know it, you’re a long-term project who might never sniff the starting lineup until his senior season.

For a three-star recruit coming out of high school, there are always tough choices to make. A three-star player can certainly shine at a school like North Carolina, but they’ll be competing with a lot more heralded four and five-star players. Whereas if they had gone to a smaller school, they could not only start, but potentially be a star. This is the story of one such kid.

PLAYER: Justin Watts
POSITION: Guard/Forward
TEAM: North Carolina
YEAR: Senior
TAPE: 6-4, 210
TWITTER: @MyNameisJWatts

2010-11 STATS: 1.9 ppg, 1.9 rpg (.375/.533/.333)

DEEP THOUGHTS:
Justin Watts is a classic case of a talented player, yet not elite, who probably could have gotten more playing time (and more props) if he had picked somewhere else other than North Carolina to play.

Having said that, he’s never complained and there’s never been a rumor about him transferring. That should tell you something about this young man.

Justin Watts came to North Carolina as part of a stellar 2008 recruiting class that also featured Tyler Zeller, Ed Davis and Larry Drew. At 6-4, he is officially a shooting guard but the Tar Heels are stacked at that spot. Thankfully coach Roy Williams has been able to take advantage of Watts’ biggest strength…his versatility.

This past season Watts play just under 10 minutes per game, often subbing in for Harrison Barnes or John Henson. It’s a lot to ask from a guy standing 3-4 inches shorter than the man he was often guarding, yet it was rare to watch Watts on the court and think, man he looks overmatched.

For those in Chapel Hill familiar with Watts’ game, this probably won’t surprise them.

Athletic, smart and savvy, he is the ultimate role player. On the defensive end, he’s great at finding his spot and understands how to play straight-up defense. He doesn’t try to get fancy with steals (only nine in three seasons) or blocks (11 total).

Offensively he can shoot a jumper and he’ll launch some threes (21 attempts last year), but he works best letting other player-makers do their thing, freeing up Watts for open looks when those players get doubled up. He also proved to be a timely rebounder, averaging about two per game in his 10 minutes on the court.

In the end, 2011-2012 will look at lot like last year for Watts. With just about everyone returning, the Tar Heels will again be loaded, although a little thin with big men on the bench. With the addition of James McAdoo and P.J. Hairston, Watts will probably again be the fifth option off the bench. He’ll find his minutes when either Henson or Zeller take a break, moving Barnes to the 4-spot. This should give Watts 8-10 as a small forward.

While Watts won’t ever get his jersey huge up in the rafters, he does have a legit shot at earning his second national championship. Not a lot of Tar Heels can say that.

Word is Harrison Barnes will actually return for his sophomore season at North Carolina. If true, ouch. I don’t know about you, but I felt like when Barnes ditched Duke for a lighter shade of Blue, it was like a knife being stuck in the side of all Blue Devils’ fans. Now as Kyrie Irving leaves and Barnes stays, I feel like he’s twisting the knife just for kicks.

But this isn’t about me. This is about the big picture.

First the obvious…with the departure of Irving, Kyle Singler and Nolan Smith, there is little doubt that the pendulum has swung back to the Tar Heels’ corner for at least one season. Let’s face it, the team is stacked.

The starting five will be completely untouched. It’s rare that an entire starting five returns, let alone a starting five that got within one game of the Final Four.

Meanwhile the Duke Blue Devils will need to find a new starting point guard, while asking a freshman to become a legit scoring option on day one. Yes, Austin Rivers is certainly capable. He better be.

Now I’m not guaranteeing that North Carolina will run away with the ACC. Duke has enough talent to steal it from them, just as UNC stole the regular season crown from Duke this past season. The fact is, the two teams will probably split their home and home, so the deciding factor will be how each team performs on the road in the ACC. (more…)

Sorry for the delay in writing after Duke beat North Carolina on Sunday. A stomach flu has been ripping through me and my family, so blogging has been put on the back burner. Hopefully, as I get healthy, I’ll get back to this. Anyhow…

As you already know, the Duke Blue Devils crushed North Carolina, 75-58. The win handed the Blue Devils yet another ACC tournament crown. Of course, if you are like me, you went looking for a some in-debt analysis after the fact, but found none because everyone was focused on the tournament and brackets. So I’ll offer up my thoughts.

SO WHAT JUST HAPPENED?

TEAM EFFORT
Nolan Smith and Kyle Singler are the stars of this team, but everyone has already said it a million times, Duke needs a legit third option. Well, how about five legit options?

Against North Carolina, the two seniors only shot 11-32. The rest of the team shot an astonishing 18-26 from the floor. Wow.

The best thing about this tournament as a whole was how well everyone else has played. Let’s break everyone down.

MASON PLUMLEE
Slowly but surely his ability to create inside on his own has improved. Strangely, Duke always seems to establish this early, but then sort of goes away from it as the game progresses. In the ACC tournament, Mason shot 10-14 from the floor. Hell, if you go back to the February 2 (against Maryland), he is shooting 67-percent from the floor (46-69). That’s stunningly good.

If Mason needs to step up anything, it’s his rebounding. Maybe because his brother is stealing some of his boards, but Mason has only grabbed nine total rebounds in his last two games. No big deal considering how great he’s been over the past two months, but if you remember that timeout coach called three minutes into the second, I’ll be willing to beat it was Mason who took the beating because Duke was getting killed on the boards to start the second half. Mason’s job in order is simple: Rebound, Defense and then scoring.

MILES PLUMLEE
I think the smartest thing Coach K has done this past week was inserting Miles back into the starting lineup. For whatever reason, this move has seemed to help out both he and Ryan Kelly (more on that in a moment).

The name everyone is throwing around in regard to Miles is Brian Zoubek. The similarity is, two underperforming big men, get inserted into the lineup and suddenly play great. The obvious difference is that Zoubek was thrown into the lineup in Mid-February. This change was made extremely late. Again, you’ll have to hand it to Coach K. Not a lot of coaches would have had the nuggets to make a lineup change likes this, this late in the season.

Miles actually started producing last Sunday in Chapel Hill. He didn’t start, but it certainly was his “breakout” game. Over his last four, he’s hit 14-24 from the floor. The majority of his points have come from put backs and a nice mid-range jumper. Teams aren’t respecting his shot, so he’s finding himself open from 8-10 feet.

However, Miles is doing most of his damage on the glass, especially the offensive kind. Over his last four, he’s grabbed 31 rebounds, 17 of which were offensive rebounds. He’s also taken some pressure off his brother, since he’s more capable of guarding the opponents best big man when Mason goes to the bench, something that Kelly couldn’t really do.

RYAN KELLY
Let’s face it, no player is shooting better than Ryan Kelly. After an awful shooting performance in Chapel Hill, one in which he missed wide open three after wide open three, Kelly has stepped inside the three-line and develop his mid-range game. He’s hit 12-18 from the floor since being benched and he’s only take four threes total (hitting a pair). The fact is, he’s a decent three-point shooter, but he’s not a great. When he decides not to shoot up a ton of threes, he’s just more effective. In fact, Kelly is hitting roughly 66-percent from two-point range. That’s for the year (65-101). That’s great. He shoots only 33-percent from three.

Don’t get me wrong, he needs to be shooting threes. The key to him sitting in that corner is that he draws the opponent’s big man out, opening the driving lane for Nolan Smith. I just think 2-3 attempts per game is fine.

SETH CURRY
Clearly Seth has become the legit third scoring option. Since Irving went down, Curry has averaged about 10.3 points per game. Since the BC game on the 27th of January, he’s hit a solid 49-percent of his threes. What I like best about Curry is how he’s stepped up big time in the biggest games…all three North Carolina games.

Against the Tar Heels, he’s averaged nearly 18 per game, hitting 18-31 shots. Those are great numbers.

The reality is, prior to the start of the season, I was curious to see how Curry would handle the tournament atmosphere. It’s one thing to shoot good at home in a friendly environment, it’s a whole different thing to produce in a one-and-done tournament. For a while I was actually worried about this, because Curry’s numbers dipped on the road. However, over the last month and a half, he’s begun to shoot better outside of Cameron and he had no problem putting the ball in the basket in Greensboro.

If Curry could do one thing better, I’d like to see him do more of what he did at the end of the Maryland. Think back, when Smith went out, Curry became the point guard…Seth did an amazing job handling the ball, driving to the lane, scoring, getting foul. It was unlike anything we’ve seen this year.

Yet, with Nolan back in the lineup the past two games, I can’t recall a single time Curry drove the ball into the lane. Why not do both? Sure he’s in there for his long-range shot, but just imagine if he did a ball-fake, leaving his man in the air, dove to the lane, forcing the opponents big to help and then dish to Miles or Mason for an easy jam. Possible, just not happening.

ANDRE DAWKINS
No one questions Dawkins’ ability to shoot from three. He can. He should. He’s Duke’s best long-range shooter. When the Blue Devils start off ice cold, it is usually Dawkins who comes in and provides a scoring lift. Yet, towards the end of the season, Dawkins’ minutes disappeared. What happened?

Three things happened. Curry got better. Nothing Dawkins can do about that. What’s he doing better than Dawkins? That’s number two…Moving (without the ball). Curry has done a lot better job moving around on the offense, finding ways to get open. Dawkins had a tendency to stand around. Lastly, Dawkins had become a liability on defense. The fact is, go back and watch a game in February. Just watch Dawkins and you would see a guy who found himself trailing on a play. He seemed to be asleep on the defensive end.

However, in the ACC tournament, Dawkins seems to have stepped up his defensive game. While he certainly could do a better job of using his feet on defense (he still gets tied up), you can’t question his aggressiveness. He’s certainly made it a mission of his to earn his time back on the floor. If he can do this, then Duke doesn’t really have a need for Thornton. (more…)

Well, that wasn’t fun.

A season that started off so promising just ended in a big fat, baby blue dud. The Duke Blue Devils simply looked overmatched against North Carolina, losing 81-67. The fact is, Duke was never really in this thing. The one time Duke made a mini-run to open the first half, Carolina quickly rallied for a 9-2 run.

Luckily for all of us, this is college basketball and not college football. In the grand scheme of things, this game only really hurts a man’s pride. A team like Duke will solely be judged during that three-week tournament set to start in roughly two weeks.

SO WHAT JUST HAPPENED?

TWO ON FIVE
For the second time this season, only two Duke players were effective against North Carolina. They were of course Nolan Smith and Seth Curry. The former did his damage with the drive, while the latter did his damage outside.

For the game, the pair were 15-32. The rest of the team was 7-30. In two games against the Tar Heels, Nolan and Seth are 36-65 from the field. The rest of the team is just 14-65.

Sorry folks, but you can’t beat North Carolina on the road with just two players producing.

Having said that, it’s not like either played a perfect game.

Nolan shot 0-4 from three. In fact, he’s 0-7 in his last two road games (both loses).

While Curry was a demon from the outside, the kid has some serious work to do to develop a drive to the basket. He made Marshall look like the conferences’ best defender. Not once was Curry able to drive the ball past anyone.

Lastly, in Duke’s win over Carolina, they turned Kendall Marshall into a scorer. Tonight, not so much. He finished the game with 11 assists and is clearly the ACC’s best point guard right now.

SINGLER VS TALENT
In their first match up, Kyle Singler and Harrison Barnes pretty much played to a draw. Neither did much on the offensive end, thus canceling each other out. Tonight, Barnes did score 18, but he needed 17 shots to do it. Yet, you would never say that Barnes looked rattled. You can’t say the same for Kyle.

In two games against Barnes, Singler is just 6-31 from the floor. That’s awful. That’s also the reason why Singler will probably never be a lottery pick in the NBA draft. Barnes is exactly the kind of talent Singler will face nightly in the NBA. Barnes is longer and more athletic and so far Singler has not figured out an answer for him. He can’t drive. He can’t do much inside with Henson and Zeller helping. He could do some damage on the outside, but he just looks rushed out there.

COME ON RYAN KELLY!
I can’t remember a time when I’ve been more frustrated with Ryan Kelly. This game was set up for him. North Carolina showed right from the start that they were not going to guard Kelly on the outside. He hits some of those shots, this is a different game.

Kelly couldn’t hit anything from deep. He missed all six of his three pointers, all three were wide open looks (five from the same corner spot on the floor). I’m sorry, but Coach K can suit me up and I can produce those kind of stats.

Those misses were huge. The whole idea of Kelly being on the floor is because he’s suppose to be a threat from outside. If he hits one or two of them, it clears the lane up because it forces Henson to roll out to defend him.

On twitter, everyone kept calling for coach to bench Kelly and put Singler at the four spot, but against North Carolina that’s not a legit option. They’re just too big. You put Singler on Henson, then who guards Barnes? Dawkins? That would literally mean that Duke would be smaller at every single position on the floor.

SPEAKING OF DEFENSE
I’ll be honest, this is the best defensive team I’ve ever seen by a team led by Roy Williams. They’re just so damn long inside and Barnes is such a weapon because he can defend both inside and out. (more…)

What more can I say that hasn’t already been said about the incoming freshman?

Harrison Barnes, a 6-8 forward, will be the most polished freshman to entire college basketball since Carmelo Anthony. In fact, he’s only coming to college because he has too. I know he talked all about going to business school, but this kid won’t sniff a business class in Chapel Hill.

Of course Duke loyalist know all this. Luckily the Blue Devils are one of the best teams in the country, so I don’t suspect Coach K will regret losing out on him too much, but the fact that Roy Williams was able to come in late and snag Barnes out from under Coach K, may be the greatest recruiting heist in ACC history.

So what can you expect to see from Barnes? While he won’t blow you over with his athleticism and quickness, Barnes can do anything and everything. We know he can use Skype (although I’m not sure how handy that will be during game time. On top of that though, he can shoot – from long range, medium range, in tight, from the bench, the bathroom (third stall) – it doesn’t matter.

He can dribble left, he can dribble right, he can probably dribble with his penis for all I know. He can dish like a point guard and rebound and block shots like a power forward. He’s wicked smart, with a top-notch basketball IQ and the ball will always be in his hands during clutch time. (more…)

Harrison Barnes is gone. It’s over. It’s time to forget. We here at Big Duke Balls wish him the best, but we hope to crush his soul over the next 2-3 years. Not his actual soul of course, just his basketball soul.

Now though, it’s time for us and the rest of Blue Devil Nation to move on. In fact, the Duke coaching staff has already moved on to the next available stud small forward, Roscoe Smith.

In fact, according to Scout, the Duke coaching staff has been in touch with Smith this past week.

However, unlike year’s past, where Coach K has put all his eggs into one basket, the Duke coaching staff has been on top of Smith for a while now. They offered him a scholarship a while back and have seen him in action a handful of times, including Coach K himself in Las Vegas.

What do you need to know about Mr. Smith?

He’s a 6-7 small forward, who is attending Oak Hill Academy for his senior season. If you’ve followed college basketball for five minutes, you know that Oak Hill is an elite basketball factory that has produced Carmelo Anthony, Michael Beasley, Ty Lawson, Stephen Jackson, Brandon Jennings and Kevin Durant to name a few.

Current Duke starter, Nolan Smith also played at Oak Hill.

According to Scout.com, Roscoe Smith is the 36th best player and the sixth best small forward. According to ESPN, he’s the 16th best 2010 recruit and the 4th best SF. You pick which site you want to believe.

He’s long and athletic and can shoot from anywhere on the court. He has the ability to create his own shot, although he needs to work on heading left. Despite needing to get stronger, he’s an active rebounder.

Here’s what ESPN had to say:

Smith is a smooth jump shooter with three point range and can also knock down one or two dribble pull ups. He has good length and can shoot over smaller defenders with ease. He has a good looking stroke as he spots up in transition deep in the corners or slides to the open area on dribble penetration. He trigger is quick and he has confidence in his jumper.

Smith can get on a roll and hit three or four in row. He uses a good shot fake in order to raise the defender to set up his pull up. He has trouble finishing at the rim at times because of his lack of strength and he must work to improve his scoring moves off the bounce especially going to his left but overall Smith has excellent shooting skill and good upside.

Now can Duke land him? That’s the million-dollar question right now.

Duke returns a solid core of talent next season (Two Plumlee’s, Nolan Smith), one amazing transfer (Seth Curry), while bringing in a great class of freshman (power forward Josh Hairston & two point guards; Thornton and Irving). Irving, the No 2 ranked point guard is the big selling point for Roscoe. Small forwards love playing with elite point guards.

Assuming Singler will be headed to the NBA after his junior season, that leaves one starting spot open for one lucky freshman…I’m talking to you, Roscoe.

Does he/Will he come?

It’s been obvious for a long time that Barnes was Duke’s top target and Smith was the second option. Some might argue that Smith might not want to be someone’s sloppy seconds. Don’t believe it.

A little while back, Smith reduced his list of potential suitors to three; Connecticut, Georgetown and Duke. It should tell you something that Duke was one of the final three, despite the fact Smith was Duke’s second option. You see, Smith has taken official visits to both Connecticut and Georgetown, but he has not taken a official visit to Durham.

Note: He has been to Duke though in an “unofficial” visit.

It is also important that Smith hasn’t signed yet. It’s clear that he was waiting to see where others, especially Barnes would land. This could mean that Duke was his No 1 option and he was just waiting to make sure there was a starting spot waiting for him. I could also be full of sh*t. In all honestly, it’s probably somewhere in the middle.

The kid has been waiting for a reason though and that has to be a good sign. He should now (soon) make an official visit to the Duke campus. This should mean that Coach K will get the last crack at the kid. While on campus, he’s going to get the kitchen sink treatment.

There is no word on when Smith will make his final decision. According to Christopher Lawlor over at ESPN:

Smith thinks he may announce sooner and than later. There’s a remote chance it could come next week .

Landing Smith will make all of Duke nation forget about the name, Harrison Barnes. He may not be as polished as Barnes is, but he has the potential to have an outstanding college career.

With no more recruits, the Blue Devils already have a top-10 class. With Barnes we would have been No 1. With Smith, Duke’s class would easily be top-five, maybe even top three.

It’s official, at 4:18, Friday the 13th…Harrison Barnes is a member of the North Carolina Tar Heels.

First, I can’t curse Barnes. He’s a good kid. He’s going to be a great player.

Second, congratulations to Carolina…what else can be said right now?

If it wasn’t clear after their second title in four years that UNC is the premier team right now on Tobacco Road, then it became clear the moment Barnes Skyp’d Coach Roy. I really thought we had him. I really did.

Right now, Roy is our daddy. If someone wants to ask me who my daddy is, it’s Roy Williams. He’s out-coaching us, his teams are out-playing us and it has become clear he has out-recruited us. To me, that’s what is most devastating about this Barnes situation.

Coach K had been after Barnes for nearly two years. He had been on campus a half-a-dozen times, often decked out in Duke gear. We just brought in a top point guard. It didn’t matter. Right now, what Roy wants, Roy gets.

The Tar Heels swept in late, real late. In fact, they were the last school to offer Barnes a scholarship. It didn’t matter. Right now, what Roy wants, Roy gets.

Maybe one day we’ll figure out what the turning point was. Obviously some things are clear. Carolina is the best team in the nation. They have the best coach. They have a fan base that stretches from coast to coast…oh and they have Jordan.

Don’t underestimate that. Michael Jordan is the top sales pitch to any kid who heads to Chapel Hill. This generation of kids who are headed to college right now, idolized Jordan. He is the NBA, whether he’s playing anymore or not.

Unfortunately, Duke and Coach K do not have time to soul search. They still have scholarships that need to be filled in 2010. Right now, top on Duke’s list has to be Roscoe Smith. Currently, Connecticut and Georgetown are the favorites.

This coaching staff does need to figure out what’s wrong. Year after year, Duke just keeps whiffing on their top target. It has happened so much it’s starting to become a tradition.

You have to know when to hold ‘em
Know when to fold ‘em
Know when to walk away
Know what school you’re going to declare to, thus shaping the college landscape for the next 2-3 years.

Everyone who has written about the Harrison Barnes recruitment saga has all said the same thing, the man is a poker player. Unlike the Kyrie Irving situation, where it was reported that he committed to Duke the day before his announcement, no one and I mean no one has a clue where No 1 recruit Harrison Barnes is headed.

If basketball doesn’t work out for young Barnes, the World Series of Poker may just be the next logical step.

What we do know is this, we’ll know by the end of the day today (around 4PM on ESPNU).

Barnes is a special player. He can turn an average program and make them elite. As for the elites, he can turn them into championships.

After a long, grueling recruiting process, Harrison has narrowed his choices down to Duke, Kansas, North Carolina, UCLA, Oklahoma and Iowa State. All six schools have a reason to be optimistic. Each can point to a person, a visit or a quote by Barnes that gives them hope. The kid is that good.

If I had to make an educated guess (which should be ignored), this is how I’d rank the teams.

No 1) DUKE…I’ll explain below.

No 2) NORTH CAROLINA…the kid idolizes MJ, who he met when he visited Chapel Hill. That had to have some kind of impact.

No 3) UCLA…the kid wants championships. The Bruins could finally get over that hump with Barnes.

No 4) IOWA STATE…his mom works at the school.

No 5) KANSAS…Word is, Coach Self won’t be watching at 4PM. Tells me all I need to know.

No 5) OKLAHOMA…you never know, but I doubt it.

In reality, here’s the deal for Duke. The Devils have been on top of Barnes for over two years. Word is, the kid adores Coach K. Not only has he made every official visit to Durham, he’s also made at least three non-official trips to Duke. That is not common for a kid to make that many unofficial visits. During each visit, the kid has been decked out in full Devil gear. Again, this all means nothing, but it’s a positive sign.

The question is, how important is this kid to Duke? In chat rooms and on message boards, I’ve seen the kid called a “savior.” This is a little much. Duke averages 25 wins a season, has won seven of the last 10 ACC titles, the team doesn’t need to be saved.

Duke has a solid top-1o class coming in next year, along with transfer, Curry. Duke basketball will keep winning with or without Barnes.

Having said that, if you add in Barnes to that recruitment class and assume he’ll be here for at least two seasons, maybe three, Duke would be one of the favorites to win it all over that stretch.

In the end though, this is really about Coach K vs. Roy Williams. That’s ALL this is really about. After years of abuse by the Devils, Williams and UNC are now the top dogs again. They’ve won two titles over the last four years, they’ve won four straight in Cameron and they’re winning the recruiting wars.

Oddly enough, even though Duke and UNC are only eight miles apart and both compete for national titles, they have not gone head-to-head too often in recruiting. The last player Coach K and Coach Williams both went after was Brandon Wright. Roy won that one, although Wright was a one-and-done.

Overall though, Williams has certainly won the recruitment war since his return to UNC (Just read the story of two white guys).

Like I already pointed out, Coach K has gone after Barnes hard for two years. Roy Williams jumped on the bandwagon late, but he’s been aggressive going after Barnes lately. Hell, both coaches visited Barnes on the same day at his home. When does that happen?

For Carolina to lose Barnes to Duke, it wouldn’t be a big deal. They’re the ones on top, they already have a solid 2010 class and again, they came late to the Barnes party.

For Duke to lose Barnes to UNC though, that would be like if I was chasing after the hottest girl in the neighborhood for two years and right when I think I got her falling in love with me, my neighbor, who just got done banging two other hot chicks, swoops in, flashes some jewelry (Jordan), asks her out and suddenly they’re dog face down in the backseat of his Camaro.

We simply can’t have Roy Williams swoop in and steal Coach K’s new girlfriend.
