Redshirt Seniors Representing Duke at the 2016 ACC Football Kickoff

Quarterback Thomas Sirk and cornerback DeVon Edwards will represent the Duke Blue Devils at the 2016 ACC Football Kickoff event for the upcoming season.

The Atlantic Coast Conference recently announced a list of student-athletes selected to represent their schools at the ACC Football Kickoff this year. The Duke Football players who will be in attendance are two experienced student-athletes who will both play a crucial role in the team’s success this season in all aspects of the game.

DeVon Edwards will be one of the most important players returning on defense helping to replace ACC Defensive Player of the Year Jeremy Cash in the secondary. Edwards has been a versatile 5-9 defender who has played cornerback and safety so far during his time with the Blue Devils. He’s earned All-ACC honors at safety and totaled 101 tackles, 6 pass break-ups, 4 QB hurries, and an interception last season.

  • Edwards will also make an impact on special teams as a return specialist. Last season he was nominated for the Hornung Award given to the most versatile college football player for his success as a punt returner and safety, and has earned All-ACC and All-America honors for special teams. Heading into this season he leads active players in the ACC in kickoffs returned for a touchdown and average kick return yards.

    Redshirt senior quarterback Thomas Sirk will join Edwards in Charlotte at the ACC Football Kickoff. He’s coming off a ruptured Achilles in the offseason but hopes to be ready for the start of the season. He’ll be returning as the starting quarterback after compiling 2,625 passing yards and 16 passing TDs along with 803 rushing yards and 8 rushing TDs last season.

    The ACC Football Kickoff is an annual event to prepare for the upcoming conference football season. Players and coaches will participate in various interviews and activities and the preseason polls, All-ACC teams, and conference award winners will also be announced. This year’s kickoff will take place July 21-22 in Charlotte, NC.
