With every new season come new players. Most of the time, the new kids on the block are freshmen. For the 2014-2015 season, Duke signed a plethora of true freshmen.
Incoming freshman cornerback Zach Muniz comes to Durham from Saint Louis, Mo., graduating from Christian Brothers College High School.
The 5-foot-11 160 pounder is a three-star recruit and is the 22nd best prospect to come out of Missouri in the class of 2014.
In his junior season, Muniz recorded 22 solo tackles and seven assisted tackles with one tackle for loss. He also intercepted four passes. Muniz was also key on special teams, being the main punt returner for his high school. He returned 21 punts for 265 yards, averaging 12.62 yards per return. The multipurpose player recorded one touchdown over the course of the season, but the statistics didn’t specify if it was from an interception or a punt return. Muniz also recorded stats on the offensive side of the ball, being the target for three passes, totaling 42 yards, which averaged 14 yards per reception.
Muniz committed to Duke back on August 9, 2013 and made everything official in February.

Even though he signed with Duke, schools from all over the country were recruiting Muniz. Arkansas State, Ball State, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Miami (OH) New Mexico, Northern Illinois, Toledo and Western Michigan all offered Muniz a scholarship. Other schools, such as Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Missouri and Northwestern expressed interest in Muniz.
