The ACC released the 2014 ACC All-Academic Team for women’s golf today, with half of the Duke squad earning the honors. To be eligible to be on the All-ACC Academic Women’s Golf team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.0 GPA for the previous semester and have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA during their career.
Senior Laetitia Beck, senior Alejandra Cangrejo, sophomore Celine Boutier and freshman Sandy Choi were recognized for their success in the classroom and on the course.
Beck was named to the team for the third time in her time at Duke. The Caesarea, Israel native had a 72.29 stroke average over the course of the season. She placed in the top five on five occasions. She finished in the top 10 six different times and finished in the top 20 in seven competitions. Her last round of her college career she shot a two-under par-round of 68 in the NCAA Championships. Beck was also named to the Women’s Golf Coaches Association First Team All-America.
Cangrejo earned her way onto the team all four of her years in her collegiate career. Her stroke average on the season was a 74.89 and finished in the top 20 in two competitions in her senior season. The Bogota, Colombia native finished her college career shooting a two-under-par round of 68 in the NCAA Championships.
The Frenchwoman, Boutier, earned All-ACC honors for the second year in a row. This wasn’t the only post-season award that Boutier garnered. She won the PING Women’s Golf Coaches Association Player of the Year award and the Honda Award for National Player of the Year. She was also named to the Women’s Golf Coaches Association First Team All-America alongside Beck. She boasted a 71.50 stroke average over the course of her sophomore campaign. She had three wins over the season, placed in the top five on six different occasions, and ranked in the top 10 in seven competitions. Boutier is the reigning national runner-up and is currently playing in the Women’s U.S. Open.
Choi excelled in her freshman campaign, finishing in the top 10 twice in the last three tournaments of the season. She totaled a 73.71 stroke average over her collegiate debut season.
