The 2014 FIBA Americas U18 Championship takes place June 20-24 in Colorado Springs, Col. Even though the tournament is just eight days away, the U18 National Team 15-man roster was announced on Thursday morning.
Duke’s Tyus Jones, Justise Winslow and Luke Kennard were among the 15 who made the first cut.
The other players who made the cut so far are 2014 USA Basketball Men’s U18 National Team are: Stanley Johnson (2014, Arizona), Antonio Blakeney (2015, undeclared), Isaiah Briscoe (2015, undeclared), Jaylen Brown (2015, undeclared), Jalen Brunson (2015, undeclared), Chase Jeter (2015, undeclared), Tyler Lydon (2015, Syracuse), Dwayne Morgan (2014, UNLV), Allonzo Trier (2015, undeclared), Myles Turner (2014, Texas), Thomas Welsh (2014, UCLA) and Stephen Zimmerman (2015, undeclared).
“I thought the group all-together was really, really great. Now that we’ve narrowed it down [from 24] to 15 guys, we’ll get a chance to practice with those guys,” said Billy Donovan, USA U18 National Team and Florida head coach. “As I’ve said, it’s not necessarily about having the 12 best players but having the 12 best guys that will make up the best team. I think with these 15 players there are a lot of options to choose from. This group is very talented and really good.”
The 15 players will be weeded down to a 12-man final roster on June 19, just one day before the FIBA Americas U18 Championship.
