As far as preseason awards are concerned, so far, so good, for the Duke football team. Three Blue Devils were named to Phil Steele’s 2014 Preseason All-American Team. 11 Blue Devils were named to Phil Steele’s 2014 Preseason All-ACC Team.
Redshirt sophomore safety and kick returner DeVon Edwards, redshirt senior offensive guard Laken Tomlinson and senior wide receiver Jamison Crowder were the three named to Steele’s All-American list.
Tomlinson was named to Steele’s second-team offense. Edwards was named to the second-team special teams. Crowder was named to the fourth-team offense.
As for the All-ACC team, Crowder and Tomlinson were named to the first-team offense, while redshirt senior linebacker Kelby Brown and redshirt junior safety Jeremy Cash were named to the first-team defense. Redshirt senior tight end Braxton Deaver was the lone Blue Devil named to the second-team offense. Senior linebacker David Helton was named to the second-team defense. As for the second-team special teams, redshirt junior punter Will Monday, Edwards and Crowder rounded out three of the four eligible positions for the special teams. Redshirt senior quarterback Anthony Boone was chosen the third-team offense. Rounding out the Duke All-ACC nominees is redshirt senior offensive tackle Takoby Cofield who was selected for the fourth-team offense.
The men who were selected in Steele’s Preseason All-ACC are 11 of the 17 returning projected starters for Blue Devils this season.
