One ESPN Top 50 recruit remains uncommitted. That’s Myles Turner, 7-foot, 240-pound center out of Bedford, Tex. He’s No. 2 on the ESPN 100 chart for recruits, just behind Jahlil Okafor, who’s already committed to Duke.
Turner is making his announcement on Wednesday, April 30. Where is he going to go? No one is completely sure.
He has offers from seven institutions (Duke, Kansas, Ohio State, Arizona, Kentucky, Oklahoma State, Southern Methodist and Texas). According to ESPN, he’s made official visits to three of those (Duke, Kansas and Ohio State). There is not doubt that he’s set foot on Southern Methodist and Texas’ campuses though, considering they are both in his backyard. According to Sports Illustrated, “Texas, Kansas, and SMU are regarded as favorites”.
What does that mean for Duke?
If he wasn’t considering Duke for his college home in the past few months, he would have removed Duke from his list.
Regardless of that, the probability that Turner lands at Duke is unlikely. It’s nothing to get overly disappointed about though. Duke has landed two of the top five recruits, one of them already being a center.
Wherever Turner ends up, he has one thing on his mind
“Overall, [I want to be] just wherever I feel the most comfortable,” Turner said.
In the off chance that Turner does pick Duke, the pressure in the paint will be impenetrable with both Okafor and Turner protecting the rim. Duke would have the size that they didn’t have in 2013. With the potential addition of Turner, the look of the Duke Blue Devils would be completely different than just one year before.
