Two male swimming Blue Devils were awarded with ACC honors on April 9th.
Senior Nick McCrory highlighted the Blue Devils awards list, being named the ACC Men’s Swimming and Diving Scholar Athlete of the Year. McCrory won the award for his efforts on the platform. He has won the NCAA title in platform diving four years in a row, being the first athlete to do so in that event.
“It was definitely an emotional event because this is the last time I’ll do the NCAA,” McCrory said to the NCAA following the NCAA Championships. “I just wanted to dive well for the university because they’ve been such a good support for me.
He also finished first in the one-meter springboard diving event at the NCAA Championships. Over the course of his collegiate career, McCrory gained All-American status 11 times, and won 10 gold medals at the ACC Championships. This was the first time that he was named as ACC Men’s Swimming and Diving Scholar Athlete of the Year, however, he has been named to the All-ACC Academic Team three times over the course of his career.
Senior Hunter Knight was named to the All-ACC Academic Team along with his teammate. Knight placed 33rd in the 100-yard breaststroke and placed 37th in the 200-yard breaststroke at the NCAA Championships.
McCrory and Knight placed 21st overall in the country as a team.
