Coming off their second loss in seven games, there was a very real possibility that the Duke Blue Devils (6-2) might slide out of the top ten, but they managed to make the cut in both the Associated Press (No. 10) and USA Today (No. 8) poll.

The voters took it easy on Duke, as they likely took into account the quality of teams they’ve lost to (No. 2 Arizona and No. 6 Kansas) and the sheer potential of the young team that is still learning how to play together. Personally, I have them in the 15-20 jumble right now, but I’m basing that entirely off what they’ve done, rather than what they could do. As it stands, their most impressive win has come against Alabama, a team that really isn’t very impressive on or off paper.

If the Blue Devils intend to stay in the top ten, they’ll have their work cut out for them, as No. 22 Michigan (5-2) will be visiting Cameron Indoor Stadium tomorrow night for a matchup in the ACC/Big Ten challenge. The Wolverines are out to a slow start of their own, as they’ve been upset by both Iowa State and Charlotte.

In good news, North Carolina fell out of the AP poll, receiving just 62 total votes (No. 25 Dayton took 90 votes, in comparison), and fell to No. 25 in the USA Today poll. The Tar Heels, who appeared to be getting back on track after an upset of No. 3 Louisville, fell to UAB on the road, 63-59.
