We’re just one game into Jabari Parker’s career at Duke, and the freshman is already racking up the honors, pulling in the ACC Rookie of the Week award after an impressive debut in the Blue Devils’ 111-77 victory against Davidson.
It was the first in-season honor for Parker, who was also a preseason First-Team All-America selection by USA Today.
The Simeon (Chicago, IL) product finished his first collegiate game with 22 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and a block against a Davidson team that struggled all night to contain the freakishly-athletic Duke frontcourt of Parker, Amile Jefferson, and Rodney Hood.
While Parker still has everything to prove, it certainly was a promising sign of what is to come over the following months. He showed the ability to score in a variety of ways, knocking down an array of jumpers in addition to his strong post-play. And while his defense is still a work in progress, the intensity and hustle is there.
Parker and #4 Duke (1-0) return to action tomorrow against #5 Kansas at 9:30pm (ET) on ESPN. The contest presents not only a game between two of the most storied programs in college basketball history, but a matchup between two superstar recruits in Parker and Jayhawk forward Andrew Wiggins.
