In another big blow to the Duke Blue Devils recruiting efforts this season, 2014 PF Reid Travis (DeLaSalle) has committed to Stanford, opting to join Johnny Dawkins’ squad over the likes of Duke, his hometown Minnesota, and Gonzaga.
The announcement comes a week after Duke saw one of their other 2014 targets, 5-star PF Kevon Looney, commit to UCLA.
Travis would’ve been a big get for the Blue Devils, who are still in play for others, including 5-star recruits Tyus Jones and Jahlil Okafor. With Jabari Parker almost guaranteed to be a one-and-done player, the 6’8″, 240 lb forward could’ve immediately stepped into the Duke rotation.
This wasn’t much of a surprise for Blue Devils fans, however, as there were plenty of reports beforehand that Duke was out of the running:
No surprise at this point but Duke is 100 percent out for Reid Travis. They tried a final pitch but word from Durham, not the right pitch.

On the bright side, this might be the biggest recruit Johnny Dawkins has pulled in during his time at Stanford, and if Duke was going to lose Travis to anyone, I am glad it is the former Duke star and coach.
As far as where the Blue Devils go from here, they still have a very good shot at landing the combination of Jones and Okafor. If that should happen, it would immediately vault Duke amongst the top recruiting classes. Don’t hit the panic button quite yet, Duke fans.
Go, Blue Devils.
