Just a couple days removed from being named the ACC Player of the Week, Duke QB Anthony Boone was tabbed as the Ronald McDonald House Charities Student-Athlete of the week.
Boone, who returned from a three-week absence (broken collarbone) last weekend, led the Blue Devils to a blowout 35-7 victory over the Navy Midshipmen at home. The junior QB carved up the Navy secondary to the tune of 295 yards and three touchdowns, completing 81.5% of his passes in the process.
Boone opened the scoring when he connected with junior WR Isaac Blakeney for a 27-yard TD pass at the 9:35 mark in the second quarter. Exactly five minutes, he would find Max McCaffrey for a three-yard strike to put the Blue Devils ahead for good.
His final touchdown would come in the early stages of the third quarter, as he once again hooked up with Blakeney for an 18-yard score.
While there will always be some nervousness amongst all those involved when a new QB takes over, Boone has done nearly everything to assure Blue Devils fans that the passing attack will remain dangerous as long as he is around.
That being said, we will get our first look of the season of Boone against ACC competition, as Duke takes on Virginia this Saturday. In their matchup last season, Boone threw for 212 yards and four touchdowns on 18-31 passing.
