“Abandon all hope, ye who enter here.”

That message is scrawled across the gates of hell in Dante’s Inferno and may as well be a message to all college football fans, but with a less depressing meaning.  The time for hoping and wishing and prognosticating is done.  The season is upon us and we are just hours from championship dreams being dashed, quarterback controversies being settled, hot seats warming up, and new coaches making their introductions.  There is no more time for hope, only answers.

That is the glorious notion of college football: each week presents new answers, new questions; new heroes, new foes; more optimism and more pessimism.

Duke is entering a season with many questions like how will the new offense work, will the defense improve, will the easy schedule be enough to get back to a bowl game, is Anthony Boone the right leader for Duke football,  which freshmen will step up and make plays or relegate themselves to the bench.

Some will be answered today, some will not.  However, there is much to be observed even from what is likely to be a Duke blowout (Vegas favors Duke by 33).   Here are a few links to get you started on the first game day of college football season.
