Offers from Duke are hard to come by as Coach K and his cabal of assistants only give out a handful each year. This is why we should take extra notice of the offer for 2015 combo guard Tyler Dorsey. The 6-4, 180 pounder has brought comparisons to John Wall and Deron Williams.
His athleticism won’t blow you away and he would do well to add strength to his excellent frame but I’m splitting hairs. The reality is that he is an elite scorer, as evidenced by the 35 point barrage including seven three pointers against Malik Newman and Emmanuel Mudiay at the Fab 48.
Although he is an elite scorer, Dorsey has been working on transitioning to the point guard position. Earlier this summer, he worked with Andre Miller at the NBAPA Camp in Charlottesville.
Ranked as a top ten player in the 2015 class and top two shooting guard, depending on which service you prefer, Dorsey has already had his fair share of suitors hoping to reel him in. Louisville, UCLA, Florida, Connecticut, Arizona, and now Duke have offered the rising junior.
The hope is that Dorsey could come in and play alongside Tyus Jones, should the #1 PG in the 2014 class ultimately decide on Duke (which is looking bloody likely). Of course, this means the hope is for Jones to play two years but Duke fans should temper expectations and take the “I’ll believe it when I see it.” approach to a possible two year stay for Jones.
Keep an eye on Dorsey as things develop with the talented point guard prospect. Follow him @TDORSEY_1
