Rodney Hood ended his participation in the 2013 USA Basketball Men’s World University Games Team training camp on Friday due to an injury to his right Achilles tendon.
“I feel so sorry for Rodney,” said USA head coach Bob McKillop (Davidson College). He committed himself fully to be a part of this team, and we will miss him. He would have been a valuable team member for USA Basketball.”
The extent of the injury is currently unknown, but I have reason to believe it is not something extremely serious (like an Achilles tear).
We reported this initially on Thursday.
While it’s certainly not good news that Hood had to withdraw himself, he still looks to be in a better state than originally thought. He left Thursday’s practice while on crutches.
Hood’s teammate Rasheed Sulaimon still remains on the team. Let’s hope for a full and speedy recovery for Rodney Hood. He could end up being a vital part of Duke’s potential success next season.
Update: It is now confirmed that Hood doesn’t have a Achilles tear.
