Miami 90 - Duke 63: Rapid Reaction

#25 Miami defeated #1 Duke 90-63 in Coral Gables tonight. I could throw out all the miserable statistics that the game produced, but I can do that later when I’ve come back to a neutral level, emotionally. For now, I’ll just leave you with a brief video summary of the game:

Okay, I’ll give you some stats. Seth Curry shot 0-10 from the field. Quinn Cook shot 1-12 from the field. Mason Plumlee shot 5-14 from the field. Obviously, Ryan Kelly had some sort of magic fairy dust that caused Duke’s shots to go in and, now that he isn’t playing, the magical fairy dust is no longer out there on the court. Duke shot 22-73 (30.1%) on a night where most of their shots were wide open. Heading into halftime, the Blue Devils were shooting 18%, down 42-19, and appeared to have no interest in stepping back onto the court.

The only positives you could take from this game was the play of the freshmen. Amile Jefferson provided the only source of energy throughout the first half and ended up with 13 points and 5 rebounds on the night. Alex Murphy, who has struggled to earn playing time this year, finished with 11 points and 5 rebounds in a very impressive effort. Rasheed Sulaimon was the only guard who provided any consistency on either end of the floor, collecting 16 points, 4 steals, 2 rebounds, and 3 assists in the contest.

We’ll take a more in depth look at this game later tonight. For now, I just need to be away from thinking about the Blue Devils for a couple hours.

Wow. What a game.
