Duke Football: David Cutcliffe Signs Extension

Duke fans got a very very very very early Christmas present today in the form of just about the greatest news the football program could have asked for:

The ‘source’ says the contract extension will run through 2018, which means Cutcliffe gets at least six more seasons to get the Blue Devil program he rebuilt all the way back to the top of the ACC. There has been concern as to whether or not Cutcliffe would leave Duke for Tennessee, the school where he had so much success in the past, but he put those rumors to bed earlier, stating he would be back in Durham next season.

Nothing is official yet, but we have no reason to doubt this news report so you can go ahead and get all excited. Cutcliffe is truly one of the better guys in college football and I would love to see him complete this turnaround with an ACC Championship and a BCS berth sometime in the next few seasons.

Blue Devils fans, rejoice! The man who performed CPR on Duke football for about four years straight and finally brought it back is going to see his progress through for a few more years.

Go Duke!
