The Senior CLASS award candidates were announced today, and Duke Forward Mason Plumlee is amongst the thirty players up for the award.
The most exciting development to come out of this news is the discovery that CLASS is actually an acronym, meaning ‘Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School’. The process of attempting to cleverly turn the word ‘class’ into an acronym must have been highly entertaining to observe and I imagine it was created by a Creative Writing major who has been waiting years for his time to shine.
Okay, back to Plumlee. Yesterday, Ball Durham discussed what to expect from Plumlee coming into his fourth and final year at Duke. This is exciting news for the 22-year old and I hope he wins it, as it is an award that recognizes excellence in Character, Competition, the Classroom, and the Community. Sure, it’d be awesome to win all those National Player of the Year Awards, but it’d also be pretty awesome to have someone hand you a piece of hardware and say, “You are a pretty good human being.” I’m not certain if that is how the award ceremony goes, but I’d be fairly content with it if I was the winner, which I’m not. I’m sure Mason will want a longer speech.
